Breakfast - 01/14/10

Breakfast Notes

The groceries:
~Farmhouse Eggs, large brown eggs, $2.28, 1 dozen , Wal-Mart
~Store brand Bacon, thick sliced, $1.99, 12 ounces, Piggly Wiggly
~Store brand Bread, white, $1.19, 20 ounce loaf. Piggly Wiggly
~Store brand Butter, unsalted, $2.38, 1 pound, Wal-Mart
~Simply Orange Orange Juice, high pulp, $3.00, 59 fluid ounces, Wal-Mart
The ham was a Smithfield spiral-cut with a packet of glaze. We did not use the glaze because of the ingredients. It is just as delicious without the glaze. We purchased it from Piggly Wiggly just before Christmas. I do not know how much we paid, shameful I know. Ü

What we used and the cost:
Eggs .19¢ x 4 = 76¢
Bacon 15¢ per slice x 4½ slices = .68¢
Bread .05¢ per slice x 2 slices = .10¢
Butter .07¢ per Tablespoons x 2 Tablespoons = .14¢
OJ .05 per ounce x 8 ounces = .40¢
As I said above, the ham was purchased before Christmas. I had one slice. I am not sure how much this would be so I will guess 15¢?
Totat Cost $2.23

Additional Notes:
The total above does not include tax. However, in case you are curious, in North Carolina, our food tax is currently 2%.

In the morning we use Beaumont Classic Roast, yes, it is full of caffeine. It comes in a 34.5 oz can and cost $4.49. We purchased it from Aldi Foods.

I use Stevia rebaudiana White Extract Powder in my coffee. For now I use stevia for coffee. I purchased the 4 oz. package from Wilderness Family Naturals.

You probably notice that I did not include the cost of the coffee or stevia in the total above. One is because we don't drink coffee while we eat. Another reason is because to be honest I have not been worried about it.

For the baked ham: I froze the leftover in containers. Whenever a container empties I take another container from the freezer (above the refrigerator) and put it in the refrigerator. It slowly thaws. I sometimes use my food saver. But I knew we would eat it before it got freezer-burnt.

BTW, This ham is soooo delicious! We love it hot, warm or cold. It is yummy whether plain, or dipped in mustard or mayonnaise. We do not normally eat this ham with a bread. However, if we wanted to eat as a wrap, we forgo the bread (nope not even a tortilla is needed).

Here's how we do wraps:

Lay out a couple leaves of Romaine or Iceberg lettuce. If you'd like some cheese put that on top of the lettuce. Now spread mustard or mayonnaise on one side of the ham slice. Lay the ham down on top of the cheese with the mustard or mayonnaise facing the cheese. Now wrap the lettuce around and enjoy!

The iceberg is harder to wrap with, so for this just lay out a couple pieces of lettuce, fix the center, then top with more iceberg. You eat it as one does a sandwich made with bread.

PS we do this with slices of chicken and beef.
